San Diego County Seniors Inter-Club Golf League

My first year as President of our San Diego County Seniors Golf League has certainly flown by quickly.  I guess it must be “time flies when you’re having fun”.  We have just finished our year-end four-ball tournament and we are beginning the play-offs.

Let me first address the fourball tournament held at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club.  Roy Burchill, our League Secretary, picked a great venue and put on a very successful event.  We had 102 players representing 17 of our 20 League Club members.  Only San Vicente, Steele Canyon and Singing Hills were unrepresented.  We divided the field into three flights and paid out $1500.00 in prize money.  Our overall winners were Steve Falletta and Derek Evans from Balboa Park who shot a smooth 59, thirteen under par.  Roy and I are looking for a venue for next year’s four ball.  If you have a suggestion, please let us know.

As I mentioned before, we enter the playoffs leading to the crowning of the 2019 League Champion.  Congratulations to the eight teams that made the playoffs:   (1) Morgan Run, (2) Balboa Park, (3) The Vineyards, (4) Coronado, (5) Pala Mesa, (6) Admiral Baker, (7) Temeku Hills, and (8) Cottonwood.  We had four teams tie for the fifth place and we had to use the tie breaker rules to sort out the order of play.  The playoff matches will finish in three weeks and we will have a champion, maybe new if someone knocks off Morgan Run, our reigning champion.

On December 2, we will hold the Captains’ meeting at St. Mark.  The purpose of this meeting is to plan for our 2020 League season and to address any rules or procedures that need tweaking.  If you have any thoughts on these matters, please contact me.

At our Captain’s meeting we will also say thank you to our League Treasurer, Tom Welsh, who is retiring after many years of service to our League.  THANK YOU TOM!  David Davis from St. Mark has decided to throw his hat into the ring and will seek election to this position at the Captain’s meeting.  If there are any of you wanting to run for this position, please let me know.

Now, I want to thank all 500+ members of our League for great first year.  I am looking forward to 2020 and more “fun” competition.
